Vox Musicae International Festival and Academy

Application Requirements

The Program is open by recorded video audition, to students ages 16-28 who are seriously considering music as a career and willing to devote themselves to a well-rounded musical education. Submitted recordings must be video files; no audio files will be accepted.

Strings:

  • One movement of Bach 

  • One movement of a standard concerto

  • Two standard orchestral excerpts in contrasting styles

  • Solo piece not to exceed 20 minutes in length. It may include, but does not require, piano accompaniment (Video Recording)

Woodwind, Brass
& Percussion:

  • Your choice of solo

  • Your choice of an etude

  • Two standard orchestral excerpts in contrasting styles

  • Solo piece not to exceed 20 minutes in length. It may include, but does not require, piano accompaniment (Video Recording)

Auxiliary instruments:

  • Two standard orchestral excerpts in contrasting styles

Important Things You Should Know:

Video Requirements:

  • Candidates may upload their audition videos on all major platforms, including but not limited to YouTube, Vimeo, and Tencent.

  • Candidate may record individual requirements separately. 

  • Please provide the video link on the application, make sure to enlist the videos as “unlisted” so that the panel with the link can view these video submissions. 

  • Video must be from a single video camera, with the same shot for the entire video. Your full body must be in the shot for the video.

  • Some advice for getting the best video possible:

  • We strongly recommend you view your recording all the way through before submitting it.

  • Record in a quiet space with no background noise present. If you are at home, make sure you are away from appliances that make noise, like refrigerators, air conditioners and microwave.

  • Ensure your microphone is not too close to your instrument when playing. 

  • If you have to choose between amazing audio and amazing video, choose amazing audio.

Application Deadline: We are accepting video submissions on a rolling basis. 

  • Instrument Eligibility

  • Students who play any of the following instruments are eligible to apply: violin, viola, cello, string bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, and timpani/percussion.

 

Concerto Competition (OPTIONAL)

  • The Concerto Competition is open to all full-time participants, but the stages of the competition begin with the application. If you choose to compete in the Concerto Competition, the piece you submit as your solo in the application is your competition piece. The piece must be for full orchestra and must be readily available for purchase or rental. The final repertoire selection will be up to the discretion of the Festival Director. Full details for the concerto competition will be shared upon acceptance to the program. Contact our administration for specific questions about the competition or repertoire selection.

 

Obligations of Participants

  • Serious dedication and desire to pursue a holistic musical education are most important for this program. Students selected for the Festival will be expected to enter into a contractual arrangement with the Festival. Students are expected to participate in all two weeks of the program.
